PCC writes open letter to communities on custody and the Southern Policing Hub

Why isn’t a custody suite included in the proposed Southern Policing Hub for Salisbury? 

Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Wilkinson has written an open letter to residents and councillors addressing one of the most widely discussed policing issues in south Wiltshire. 

While acknowledging the strength of feeling surrounding custody provision, the Commissioner explains why decisions must be based on operational policing requirements, value for money and the responsible use of public funds. 

The letter sets out the advice provided by Wiltshire Police, outlines the significant ongoing costs associated with running a custody facility and explains why current investment is focused on strengthening frontline policing, neighbourhood teams and operational effectiveness. 

It also highlights how the Southern Policing Hub has been designed to provide flexibility for future expansion should policing demand, operational need or funding arrangements change.
