Commissioner Visits Morecambe to See Impact of Funding for BID Warden

Lancashire’s Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw has visited Morecambe alongside local MP Lizzi Collinge to see first-hand how investment through his Community Fund is helping tackle crime and anti-social behaviour in the town centre.

The visit focused on the Morecambe Business Improvement District (BID) Warden project, which received £23,910 through the Commissioner’s MP Funding Strand. The project aims to provide a visible presence in the town centre, support police activity, gather intelligence, address anti-social behaviour and improve community confidence.

Joined by representatives from Morecambe BID, the Commissioner and MP visited local businesses operating within the BID area and spoke to retailers about the issues affecting them.

Discussions focused on concerns including shoplifting, anti-social behaviour and the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters, as well as the positive difference the BID Warden is making through their visible presence and close partnership working with Lancashire Police.

The BID Warden works alongside local policing teams and partners to provide reassurance to businesses and members of the public, while also supporting efforts to identify emerging issues and share intelligence that can help target resources more effectively.

“The BID Warden provides an additional visible presence in the town centre, helping to reassure businesses and residents while working closely with our policing teams and local partners to tackle anti-social behaviour and other community concerns.

“This is exactly the type of initiative the Community Fund was designed to support. By investing in projects that bring partners together and respond to local priorities, we can help make our communities safer and strengthen public confidence.”
