E-Scooter and Scrambler Use in Newry City

I wanted to provide you with some information regarding E-Scooter and Scrambler use in your area.

We are asking for the support of parents and guardians in helping to keep your young people and the wider community safe. We are appealing to parents and guardians not to purchase e-scooters or scrambler bikes for children where they may be used illegally or unsafely.

We would also be grateful parents to speak with their children about the dangers associated with these vehicles, including the very real risk of serious injury, and remind them that e-scooters and unregistered scrambler-type motorcycles cannot legally be used on roads, footpaths, pavements, parks, or any other public place.  

Their use on roads and other public places creates a number of potential offences.
 

If necessary, and in certain circumstances, Police can seize and destroy these e-scooters.  We will be focussing on this issue in the coming weeks in the Newry City area.

Police will continue to patrol areas where concerns are reported and will take appropriate education and enforcement action where necessary.
