Protect your motorbike or moped

Motorbike theft remains a significant issue, but a few simple precautions can greatly reduce the risk.

Always lock your motorcycle with a quality disc lock, chain, or ground anchor, and use more than one security device where possible.

Park in well-lit, busy areas or secure garages, and consider fitting a tracker.

Covering your motorcycle can also make it less attractive to thieves by concealing its make and model.

Remove keys from the ignition, even when leaving the bike for a short time.

Layering security measures gives thieves more obstacles and helps keep your motorcycle safe.

Fake messages from water companies

Nationally there has been an increase in fake communications purporting to be from a local water supplier. The messages appear genuine, using authentic logos and professional language. Messages could be in any form e.g. text, email, social media etc:

“There is now a hosepipe ban. Click here to see if your area is affected.”

“You are eligible for a free water-saving kit. Click here to claim it.”

“Your water bill is changing due to restrictions. Update your payment details here.”

Clicking on the links will take you to genuine-looking fake websites designed to steal your personal and financial information including bank details, payment card details, passwords/PINs.

Remember:

Your genuine water supplier will not ask you to update your payment details or provide sensitive information sent in unsolicited messages.

Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS)

Also known as Clare’s Law, the scheme allows information about a person’s history of domestic abuse or violent behaviour to be shared with a current or potential partner. It operates through two routes; Right to Ask where a member of public requests information, and Right to Know, where police proactively disclose information to someone they believe may be at risk.

Members of the public can apply for DVDS through Police Contact Enquiry Officers on 101; or Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary website Request information under Clare's Law: Make a Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme (DVDS) application | Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary
