Appeal following report of attempted wildlife killing in Poole

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward after a bird was reportedly attempted to be killed using a catapult in Poole.

At around 4.05pm on Monday 24 August 2026, it was reported that a group of young people were using catapults with metal ball-bearings to target wildlife in Poole Park.

Officers carried out a search of the area and two 14-year-old boys from Bournemouth were arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place, possession of a knife blade or sharp pointed article in a public place and attempting to kill a wild bird.

They have both been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Police Constable Oliver Gosling, of Poole police, said: “There were a number of people out enjoying the park during the afternoon and we would urge anyone who may have witnessed anything to help our investigation to please get in touch.

“We take reports of this nature seriously and want to reiterate that we will take action against anyone suspected of recklessly targeting wildlife in this way.”
