New powers to tackle anti-social driving in East Cambridgeshire

I'm pleased to let you know that a new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) has come into force across East Cambridgeshire from today, giving police and authorised officers additional powers to tackle anti-social driving and vehicle-related nuisance.

Many of you have told us about the impact that anti-social driving can have on local communities, from excessive speeding and revving engines to racing, wheel spins and other disruptive behaviour in public spaces. These issues can affect residents' quality of life and make people feel unsafe in their neighbourhoods.

Following a public consultation, East Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire Constabulary have worked together to introduce this new Order, which covers public roads and spaces across the district.

The PSPO provides additional powers to deal with behaviour that causes harassment, alarm or distress to others. Those who breach the Order may face enforcement action, including a Fixed Penalty Notice and being directed to leave an area.

Most motorists use our roads responsibly and respectfully, but this new measure will help us take more effective action against the small minority whose behaviour causes disruption and concern within our communities.
