PCSO Crime Prevention Message: Shed & Garage Burglaries

I'm a Police Community Support Officer with West Yorkshire Police. We're contacting you because there has recently been a spate of shed and garage burglaries in your area. Offenders are targeting outbuildings that have weaker locks or contain easily removable items such as bikes, power tools, and garden equipment.

Please consider taking the following steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim:

Strengthen doors and locks - Fit a good-quality hasp and closed-shackle padlock, and ensure hinges are secured with coach bolts.

Secure windows - Use internal mesh, bars, or laminate film to prevent easy access.

Install Lighting - Dusk-till-dawn or motion-activated lighting helps deter offenders.

Use alarms - Battery or wireless alarms provide an immediate deterrent.

Anchor valuables - Fit a ground anchor and heavy chain for bikes and machinery.

Mark property - Use UV pens or forensic marking solutions to help us identify stolen items.

Remove tools - Don't leave items outside that could help offenders force entry.
