🚨 COMMUNITY SMART ALERT – FRAUD AWARENESS 🚨 |
Staffordshire Police are reminding residents to remain vigilant against fraud and scams. Fraudsters are constantly changing their tactics and can target anyone, regardless of age or background. Taking a few moments to verify a message, phone call or request for money can prevent significant financial loss.
Common Types of Fraud🔹 Impersonation Fraud Criminals pretend to be from your bank, the police, HMRC, utility companies or other trusted organisations and may claim your money is at risk. Legitimate organisations will never pressure you into transferring money to a "safe account". 🔹 Purchase Scams Fraudsters advertise goods online which do not exist or are never delivered after payment is made. Be cautious when buying through social media marketplaces and unfamiliar websites. 🔹 Investment Fraud Scammers offer investment opportunities promising high returns with little or no risk. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. 🔹 Phishing Emails and Texts Fraudsters send convincing emails or text messages containing links designed to steal personal information, passwords or banking details. 🔹 Romance Fraud Criminals create fake online relationships and gradually gain trust before requesting money or personal information. 🔹 Ticket and Holiday Scams Fake tickets, accommodation and holiday deals are commonly advertised online, particularly during busy holiday and event seasons.
Remember: STOP – CHALLENGE – PROTECT✅ STOP - Take a moment to think before parting with your money or information. ✅ CHALLENGE - Could it be fake? It's okay to reject, refuse or ignore unexpected requests. ✅ PROTECT - Contact your bank immediately if you think you've been scammed and report it.
