🚔🌍 Operation Nightjar 🌍🚔
Officers from Kent Police joined forces with the Local Authority 🏛️ and the Environment Agency 🌿 as part of Operation Nightjar, targeting persistent fly-tippers and those involved in waste-related offences. Using intelligence provided by the council on known repeat offenders and their vehicles 🚐, officers proactively targeted suspects linked to environmental crime and sought opportunities to take enforcement action where offences were identified. ✅ Results🚗 2 vehicles seized for having no vehicle tax. 🚙 2 vehicles seized for having no insurance. 👮 1 driver reported for: 🗑️ 5 vehicles identified in connection with fly-tipping offences and passed to the council for enforcement action. 📋 3 Traffic Offence Reports (TORS) issued. 📝 multiple intelligence reports submitted to support ongoing investigations and future operations. Why is fly-tipping important?🛋️🛏️ Fly-tippers often dump unwanted furniture, mattresses, household rubbish, construction waste and other items outside people's homes, on roadsides, in alleyways and across our countryside. 🏡 For residents, this can be distressing and unsightly, affecting the appearance of neighbourhoods and reducing community pride. It can also block footpaths, create hazards for pedestrians and attract pests such as rats and mice. 🌳 In rural areas, illegally dumped waste damages the natural environment, harms wildlife and pollutes land and watercourses. The cost of clearing this waste often falls on local authorities and ultimately the taxpayer. 🚔 Those committing fly-tipping offences frequently show disregard for other laws, making these operations an opportunity to identify additional offences and gather intelligence on wider criminality.
🤝 Operation Nightjar demonstrates the value of joint working between Kent Police, local authorities and the Environment Agency. By sharing intelligence and coordinating enforcement activity, partners can identify offenders, protect our communities, safeguard the environment and hold those responsible accountable. | ||
