Derelict and unoccupied buildings

Llanelli Neighbourhood Policing and Prevention Team are aware of reports of ‘Urban Explorers’ and Local Young people entering derelict and unoccupied buildings within the Llanelli area.

While these locations may appear interesting to explore, entering them can be extremely dangerous. Derelict buildings can have unstable floors, damaged roofs, exposed electrical wiring, broken glass, hazardous materials, open shafts and other hidden dangers. There is also a real risk of becoming trapped or seriously injured.

Please do not enter derelict buildings or encourage others to do so, even if access appears easy or the building looks safe from the outside. Parents and guardians are also encouraged to speak with young people about the very real risks involved.

We would ask residents to report any concerns regarding people entering these properties so that appropriate action can be taken.

This could also lead to Criminal incidents, where such offences as Criminal Damage or Burglary maybe committed.

Please stay safe and stay out of derelict buildings. Your safety is far more important than exploring an abandoned property.
