Dear West Putney residents, We have made inroads into reducing cycle theft within Putney, however we would still like to share some crime prevention advice with you in regard to cycle theft, so that you may help prevent your bike from being stolen and in the case of a theft you are aware of what information helps us track down your bike.
Here are a few ways to help prevent theft of your bike:
Double lock it – Using two locks slows down thieves and removes unwanted attention from your bike. Ensure that your locks are of good quality and that one of them is at least a D-lock.
Safety begins at home – Lock down your bike the same way you would on the street, alternatively bring it inside if you have the opportunity.
Register it – By having your bike registered on a bike register, such as bike register.com, the police are able to contact you if your bike is found or recovered and arrange for you to have it collected.
Information required for the register is your bike’s frame number, model and colour alongside your contact information.
Further information regarding how to prevent theft of your bike can be found on the Met’s Crime Prevention website, this also includes information on what types of locks and equipment you can get to secure your bike which you can quickly access here.
If you would like to report a crime call 101, in an emergency always call 999. If you would like to report online, click on this link: https://www.met.police.uk/ro/report
