Police seize e-scooter as they carry out important drink drive checks |

|
An illegal e-scooter was seized in Kingsbridge this weekend as part of an operation to keep the roads safe. The police initiative took place on Saturday 15 August and a total of 15 vehicles were stopped. Six drivers were given breathalyser tests and one was subject to a check for drug driving. PC Sam McGregor, from the Kingsbridge and Rural Neighbourhood Police Team explained: “The operation was a good positive engagement event and we had support from colleagues in our Roads Policing Unit. We are pleased to confirm that no drivers were found to be over the drink or drug drive limit and no arrests took place. “We seized an illegal e-scooter during the operation this weekend. We’d like to remind local people that privately owned e-scooters can only be used on private land with the landowner’s permission.” It's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters. This means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres. Officers also dealt with an abandoned vehicle causing an obstruction and words of advice were given to some motorists for minor traffic offences such as driving vehicles with lights not working. For more guidance on e-scooters please visit the Devon & Cornwall Police website Advice on e-scooter usage | Devon & Cornwall Police For regular updates from your local police please follow Kingsbridge Police on Facebook. There is also an opportunity to meet some of the neighbourhood team face to face on Thursday 20 August at 3pm at Square’s Quay, Kingsbridge. Please feel free to go along and have a chat to officers about any concerns or questions you may have. | ||
