Officers from the Leyton Safer Neighbourhood Teams have been carrying out targeted patrols in response to local concerns about violence, antisocial behaviour, vehicle crime and the safety of women and girls. Zombie-Style Knife Recovered During hotspot patrols around Leyton Ward, officers became aware of a male riding a bicycle who left the area before officers could speak with him. While officers were still in the area, a local resident approached the team and reported that their security camera had captured a male hiding a large knife behind some bins. Officers searched the location and recovered a zombie-style knife. The weapon was safely seized, removing another dangerous knife from the streets. Further enquiries are being conducted. This incident demonstrates the importance of residents reporting suspicious activity and working closely with their local policing team. VAWG Patrols Officers also conducted visible Violence Against Women and Girls patrols around the Sedgwick Road area. These patrols were carried out following reports of a male behaving abusively and targeting women in the area. The SNT will continue to provide a visible presence, engage with residents and respond to concerns regarding women’s safety. Arrests Leyton SNT officer arrested a male on suspicion of making threats to kill. A second male was also arrested for an alleged breach of electronic monitoring conditions. Both incidents were dealt with appropriately, and further enquiries are ongoing. Successful Plain-Clothes Operation Following a long day of targeted plain-clothes patrols across the Leyton and Grove Green wards officers achieved several positive results. During the operation: 12 stop and searches were conducted. Four searches resulted in positive outcomes. Cannabis was seized. Three boxes of nitrous oxide were recovered from a vehicle. A Penalty Notice for Disorder was issued in relation to cannabis. A large quantity of business cards believed to be of interest to ongoing enquiries was recovered from a male and a female. An Operation ADDER referral was submitted to support a vulnerable person. These results demonstrate the team’s continued commitment to proactive policing, safeguarding vulnerable people and addressing the issues that matter most to the local community. Continued Patrols The Leyton Safer Neighbourhood Teams will continue to conduct visible and plain-clothes patrols at identified hotspot locations when on duty. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity and share any relevant CCTV, doorbell or security-camera footage with police. | ||
