FARM GATES - SECURITY & CRIME AWARENESS
Hello again. This week the Rural Crime Team had a report from the Wareham area of a farm gate both vandalised and removed. As a key and first line defence of your farm or property its worth reviewing your gate security.
The removal or forced opening of a farm gate could be a prelude to various illegal activity : There is also the cost of replacement or damage caused to any gate and of course cattle could escape.
GATE SECURITY You'll find on-line a vast range of security devices ranging from solar panel controlled gates , ‘dragons teeth’ barriers, and other complex systems. You may consider these to be cost-prohibitive. Below is some basic crime prevention advice.
Check gates are locked with an anti-crop chain and C.E.N. Grade padlock.
If you see a gate has recently been vandalised, lifted or left open and you think the farmer/landowner may not be aware then please consider making contact with them - or contact Dorset Police with a non-emergency update via 101. Heres hoping the weather gods give our farmers some rain in the next few weeks! Take care alan jenkins 4890 Dorset Police Rural Crime Team
