🔥 PLEASE HELP US KEEP SAFE THIS SUMMER 🔥 |
||
|
Following the devastating fires we have seen across the country, we are asking residents to take a few simple precautions to help prevent further fires in our communities.
Some fires are started deliberately, while others can happen accidentally – particularly during periods of hot, dry weather when vegetation and grass can become incredibly dry and ignite very easily.
Please think before you act. A moment of carelessness can have devastating consequences.
🚫 Please do not: • Leave disposable barbecues unattended or use them close to dry grass, woodland, fences or other flammable materials. • Throw cigarette ends onto the ground or out of vehicle windows – even a small ember can start a fire. • Use fireworks or other pyrotechnics irresponsibly, particularly near dry vegetation. • Release sky lanterns. They can travel considerable distances while still burning and can land in areas where they may start a fire. • Leave glass bottles or other items in grass or woodland, as they can contribute to fires in hot conditions. • Start bonfires or fires in areas where they are not permitted.
🔥 If you see a fire, don’t put yourself at risk. Move away from the area and call 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or property.
We know that the vast majority of our residents are considerate and responsible, but please don’t underestimate how quickly a fire can spread in these conditions.
Our open spaces, wildlife, homes and communities can be affected in minutes.
Please enjoy the summer, but do so responsibly. One small action could make a very big difference.
