Wildfire Prevention Across Staffordshire

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service has reported a significant increase in outdoor fires across the county this summer. Firefighters attended around 600 outdoor fires during July alone, averaging 20 incidents every day, which is approximately double the number recorded during the same period last year. Recent reports also indicate that crews have responded to more than 1,200 outdoor fires over the last two months, with around half believed to have been started deliberately. 

How You Can Help Prevent Wildfires

✅ Dispose of cigarettes safely and ensure they are completely extinguished.
✅ Avoid using disposable BBQs in parks, open countryside or grassland areas.
✅ Never leave glass bottles or litter behind, as they can contribute to fires.
✅ Do not burn garden waste during hot, dry weather.
✅ Report any signs of fire immediately by calling 999 and ask for Fire Service.
✅ Use What3Words, landmarks or a postcode in order to provide the exact location of a fire. 

The area of Tutbury, Rolleston and Anslow is very rural with a lot of open grassy spaces, wildfires don't only put our countryside at risk, as they spread they are a risk to homes and lives. Staffordshire Police is still receiving reports and concerns regarding children attempting to build and set fires, parents please speak to your children around the dangers of this, especially over the 6 week holidays.
