Excess Speed Concerns - Main Road, Burton Pidsea

Good morning, 

Continuing my commitment to Burton Pidsea and the concerns you have raised about vehicles exceeding the limit on Main Road, I spent some time Thursday afternoon and evening in the village. 

Taking on board your advice, I initially positioned myself in the car park of the former Black Bull public house. I was positioned 198.7m from the change of limit sign. During the time I was positioned there, the majority of motorists did slow down in time for the change of limit, the average speed of most coming into the village being around 28mph. A handful of motorists were stopped and given words of advice about their speed and vehicle checks carried out, while two drivers (of cars) were reported to the Courts, one at 46mph and one at 48mph, one around 90m past the change sign and the other around 80m. Thankfully this does appear to be the exception rather than the rule. However, alerts on Waze and Google Maps also helped reduce the speeds no doubt. 

While I was at the Black Bull, I was approached by a couple of ladies who advised me that a lot of vehicles come past the stables at the other end of the village at speed too, and so I spent a good period of time positioned opposite the stables entrance, around 75m from the change of limit sign. There were some very late brakers, but only one motorist was stopped and spoken to, not only about his speed, but also about his attire while riding his motorcycle… but that's another story! 

I hope that my presence has provided some reassurance to you that we are listening and acting on your concerns. I will continue to attend in the village, and am open to suggestions upon where to position myself - although it is imperative that there is somewhere safe to park and to stop motorists without causing any obstruction.
