Theft of Motor Vehicle

Dear Resident

A stolen vehicle was recovered less than two hours after it was reported stolen from Langley Crescent.

Officers in St Albans received a call just after midday on Thursday 30 July. It was reported that a van had been stolen from Langley Crescent. The victim's mobile phone was also in the van.

Following CCTV and ANPR enquiries, the vehicle was recovered by police just off Albion Road around an hour and a half later.

The victim was reunited with the their vehicle, along with their phone which was still inside.

Tips to prevent vehicle crime:

Ensure you lock doors and shut windows/sunroof when leaving your vehicle unattended.

Always remove keys from the ignition when you are not with the vehicle

When parking, remember to set your immobiliser or alarm or use an approved steering lock or gear lever clamp.

Never leave valuables in your vehicle – not even in the glove box or boot – and keep all possessions out of sight – even coats, sunglasses and carrier bags.

Be aware of your keys. Don’t leave them visible on a windowsill or near to your front door, where they could be “hooked” through the letterbox or a keyless signal can be received by relay devices.

If you have a keyless entry car use a signal blocking bag and consider using additional trackers, steering wheel locks or ghost immobilisers.

Store car ownership documents at home, not in your car.
