Summer is a busy period across the country for police, and we are currently seeing an increase in both 999 and 101 calls.

We are using this opportunity to remind callers to only use 999 for genuine emergencies, and to use other reporting routes where necessary.

Here's how to speak to us:

Always call 101 for non-emergencies

For emergencies such as a crime in progress or an immediate threat to life, call 999

The police are working hard 24/7 to keep you safe. That’s why it’s important to contact the correct agency when reporting an incident.

Get help from the correct agency:

Reports of antisocial behaviour such as noise complaints, nuisance neighbours and loitering are local authority matters. You must report this to your council unless a crime is in progress or the situation escalates to a genuine emergency

There has been an increase in grassland fires due to the hot weather and dry conditions. If you are reporting a fire, you must ring 999 and ask for the fire service. West Midlands Fire Service will work in partnership with the police if they believe a crime has taken place and support to safeguard the public

There are a number of charities who can help if you are suffering with your mental health or just need to someone to speak to. These are trained professionals who can get you the support you need. Find out more https://www.westmidlands.police.uk/RCRP

It is essential that we keep our 999 lines free for those most in need. Inappropriate calls delay our response to those genuine calls for service.

Repeat callers, hoax callers and nuisance callers will be prosecuted if there is not a genuine emergency to report.

Our call handlers are highly trained to take emergency and non-emergency calls for service and escalate calls when necessary. You will get the same quality service from calling 101 and using our website to report, by the same contact handlers in our force control room.

Remember, call 101 for non-emergencies.
