Bicycle Theft Prevention – Please Read

Keep Your Bicycle Secure in Tottenham Central

Cycling is a great way to travel around Tottenham, but unfortunately bicycles can be an attractive target for thieves. Taking a few simple steps can significantly reduce the risk of your bike being stolen.

Top Tips to Protect Your Bike

✅ Double lock your bike

Use two quality locks, ideally including a D-lock.

Use different types of locks where possible to make theft more difficult.

✅ Lock the frame and wheels

Secure the frame and both wheels to a fixed cycle stand.

Position locks tightly against the stand to reduce the space thieves have to work with.

✅ Choose secure parking

Park in well-lit areas with CCTV coverage where available.

Use recognised cycle parking facilities whenever possible.

✅ Take removable items with you

Remove lights, saddles, baskets and other accessories when leaving your bike unattended.

✅ Register and mark your bike

Security marking acts as a visible deterrent and helps police identify recovered bicycles.

✅ Don't forget security at home

Bikes are often stolen from sheds, gardens and communal areas.

Lock your bicycle securely even when it is stored at home.

If Your Bike Is Stolen

Report the theft to the police as soon as possible.

Have your frame number, photographs and registration details available when reporting.
