Here’s an update on burglary locally. Good evening all,
As we all brave the hot weather relentlessly, please remember to ensure windows and back doors are locked at night when you go to bed and do not underestimate the the brazen attitude of thieves taking advantage of an open door during the day.
Properties that back onto communal garages and open spaces seem to be attracting thieves much like rats to a dustbin and its always worth putting thorny bushes along the perimeter of gardens. Burglars hate leaving DNA and aren't too keen on thorns either.
Generally, its always advisable to ensure valued property serial numbers are recorded as well as photos of jewellery and other valuables to aid in recovery should the unthinkable happen. Should the unthinkable happen, lets not make it easy by putting valuables in obvious places - the back of a sock drawer might deter a casual viewer but a determined thief.
Cash keys gold watches and expensive perfumes often get taken - so they often make a bee line for the bedrooms.
Please keep valuables out of sight, look out for elderly neighbours who can fall for distraction theft and look out for each other by reporting anything suspcious to police.
Across London, we’re now arresting more than 1,000 extra criminals every month and seeing local crimes like burglary, robbery and theft start to fall, with ‘neighbourhood crime’ down 14%.
