Warning: Fake Police Officer Scams

We are aware of fraudsters contacting members of the public while pretending to be police officers. They may call, text, email, or even visit your home claiming to be investigating crime, requesting personal details, bank information, or asking you to withdraw or transfer money.

 Remember: 

✅ Police will never ask for your PIN, passwords, or to transfer money to a "safe account". 

✅ Police will never ask you to purchase gift cards or cryptocurrency.

 ✅ Police officers attending your address will carry a warrant card and should be happy to show it.

🔍 How to check if it's genuine:

📞 If you receive a phone call: 

• Hang up and wait at least 5 minutes before making another call, or use a different phone. 

• Call 101 and ask to verify the officer's identity and department.

 • If they claim it is an emergency, dial 999 if you feel at immediate risk.

🪪 If someone visits your home claiming to be police: •

 Ask to see their warrant card through a window or door chain.

 • Ask for their name, collar number, and station. 

• Close the door and call 101 to confirm they are a genuine officer if you are unsure.

⚠️ Trust your instincts. If something feels wrong, stop the conversation and seek advice from a trusted friend, family member, or the police.
