Distraction Thefts at Supermarket Car Parks |
||
|
Distraction Thefts at Supermarket Car Parks We are asking shoppers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour following a number of distraction thefts in supermarket car parks in the local area. In the incidents reported, victims have generally been targeted while loading their shopping into their vehicle or returning their trolley. The distraction has involved an individual approaching the victim and asking for assistance with car park charges, requesting directions or seeking information about the local area. The victim has subsequently discovered that their purse or wallet has been taken from their vehicle. It is possible that two offenders may be working together, with one person engaging and distracting the victim while the other takes the opportunity to steal their belongings. Please remember: Beware of Bag Dipping We are also reminding supermarket shoppers to be vigilant against bag dipping, where purses or other valuables are stolen from handbags. Never leave your handbag unattended in a shopping trolley or basket, even for a moment. Keep bags securely with you and ensure they are closed. Opportunistic thieves are constantly looking for an easy opportunity to steal personal belongings. They can be highly skilled at distracting people or using subtle techniques to take valuables without being noticed. By remaining alert and keeping your belongings secure, you can help reduce the opportunity for these offences to take place.
