Operation Eagleye: Tackling Illegal and Dangerous E-Bike Use in North Manchester

Operation Eagleye is a dedicated Greater Manchester Police initiative aimed at tackling the illegal and anti-social use of e-bikes, e-scooters, mopeds and off-road bikes across North Manchester. The operation was launched following concerns from residents about dangerous riding, noise nuisance, criminal activity and anti-social behaviour in areas including Miles Platting, Collyhurst and Monsall. 

Working alongside specialist policing resources, including drones, neighbourhood officers and roads policing teams, Operation Eagleye has already led to multiple arrests and the seizure of illegal vehicles. The operation will continue to target those who put local communities at risk through dangerous and unlawful riding. 

Inspector Pickavance said:

"Anti-social e-bikes are both dangerous and a nuisance to communities. From the way they are ridden throughout traffic with no care for those around them, to the criminal activities that can accompany them, we have received multiple reports in recent weeks and I totally understand the frustration of drivers and residents.

This operation is designed to specifically track and root out e-bikes in the area. If we see you on one, you will be stopped to ensure its safety and road compliance. This work will continue until we see a significant change and make our communities safer for everyone." 

How to Report Illegal Off-Road Bikes, E-Bikes and Scooters

If you see a vehicle being ridden illegally or anti-socially in North Manchester, please report it:

📞 101 for non-emergency reports to Greater Manchester Police. 

🚨 999 if there is an immediate risk to life or danger to the public. 

🔒 Crimestoppers: 0800 555 111 if you wish to provide information anonymously. 

When reporting, please provide as much detail as possible, including:

• Location of the incident
• Description of the bike, e-bike or scooter
• Description of the rider and their clothing
• Whether a helmet was worn
• Approximate age of the rider
• Any information about where the vehicle is stored or who may be responsible
