Weekly round-up from your local Neighbourhood Team

Hello Residents of Bordesley Green,

It has been quite a busy week for us on the Bordesley Green Neighbourhood Team, and we are excited to share what we have been doing over the last 6 days. 

Multi-Agency Event: Last week, we had a Joint Operation with Birmingham City Council, Immigration Enforcement and Parking Enforcement to tackle issues of fly-tipping and illegal working in the UK. This had excellent results, including several fines being issued for inappropriate waste disposal/management.

Show & Tell Event: PC Johnson, PC Sutheran and PC Mohamud all attended the Pitch2Progress which is a Summer Camp in Bordesley Green. There were approximately 200 children in attendance, and we had the opportunity to showcase some of our equipment. This included displaying our police van and showing off our police vests. It was a fantastic event and we hope to collaborate with this organisation more in the future.

New Roots Visit: PC Sutheran, PC Johnson, PC Eaton and PC Mohamud all attended New Roots in Bordesley Green. We had a look around the allotments and met with the wonderful staff and volunteers that run it.

Drop In Session: PC Johnson and PC Sutheran hosted their routine drop in session at the Saltley Wellbeing Centre. Local residents can pop by and speak to police about any issues within the local community that they face.

Mega-Malla Event: PC Eaton, PC Johnson and PC Sutheran attended an event in Ward End Park, named Mega-Malla. It was wonderful to see the local community get together for a celebration during the family-fun event. 

Supporting Vulnerable People in the Community: Officers have also attended a vulnerable individual this week, alongside partner agencies, to ensure they are receiving the support they need and to address some safeguarding concerns for them.

We do have an upcoming Cuppa-With-A-Copper event which will be hosted on 25th August 2026. This will be at the St Pauls Church within Bordesley Green, from 09:30am for an hour. Please do drop by if you have any concerns you want to raise about issues within the local community.

We would now like to highlight some crimes of note: 

Illegal Waste Disposal: There is a serious issue of fly tipping and illegal waste disposal within some key areas of Bordesley Green. As a reminder to all residents, it is an offence to dispose of waste on the land (outside your private dwellings) without the appropriate license to do so. This includes dumping rubbish bags in the street or burning rubbish in public. When this is noticed, we will take action and review all CCTV footage to identify suspects. Please dispose of your waste appropriately!

Distraction Burglary: There has been a report of Distraction Burglary within Bordesley Green. This is where an offender will use trickery and deceit to enter someone’s property. They will then distract the homeowner whilst stealing items from the address, before leaving the location. This offence usually targets the most vulnerable members of society, often people who live alone or the elderly/disabled. We encourage residents to remain vigilante, and to always check the identity of anyone that knocks on their door. Please report any suspicious activity to the police through the appropriate channels.

We would now like to discuss a very serious uptick in a particular type of offence - arson.

Our team have responded to multiple fires which we are treating as having been deliberately set by unknown individuals. At this time, we cannot confirm who is involved in this matter, but there are multiple enquiries we are making to identify those responsible. Nonetheless, we would like to provide some advice to the community.

It is incredibly important for parents to ensure that they are aware of where their children are going when they are out unsupervised. Additionally, it will be great to have a conversation with young people around the dangers of setting fires. This is a devastating offence for both the victims who experiences fear from the event/criminal damage, and also the wider community who are inevitably impacted by the actions of a small group. There are serious consequences for committing such offences, and those identified will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
