Community Safety Message from Your Local Policing Team 

We would like to make rural residents and members of the farming community aware of a number of recently reported suspicious incidents and encourage everyone to remain vigilant.

📍 Thruxton Incident - 7 August 2026

At approximately 8:00pm on Friday 7 August 2026, a group of four unknown individuals arrived at a farmyard in the Thruxton area in a dark blue/green estate vehicle (56 registration plate). The occupants stated they were looking for a dog.

The following morning, at approximately 4:30am, the same individuals are believed to have returned to the farmyard in a silver vehicle. Nothing was reported stolen or damaged on either occasion.

Police have also been made aware of a similar incident at another farm approximately 30 minutes away, where circumstances were comparable.

📍 Kilpeck / Bagwyllydiart Area

A separate report has been received of string being found tied to a gateway post at the entrance to a farm between Kilpeck and Bagwyllydiart.

Whilst there may be innocent explanations, markers such as string, cable ties, paint markings, or other unusual objects found on gates, fence posts, entrances, or farm equipment should be treated with caution and reported to police.

🚨 Farming Security Advice

Please consider the following measures to help protect your property and livestock:

✅ Challenge unknown visitors where safe to do so and ask for identification and their reason for being on site.

✅ Report suspicious vehicles and persons immediately. Make a note of:

✅ Ensure farm gates, workshops, barns and outbuildings are secured, particularly overnight.

✅ Check CCTV, wildlife cameras and security lighting are working correctly.

✅ Consider installing additional cameras covering entrances, tracks and machinery storage areas.

✅ Remove keys from unattended machinery and vehicles and utilise immobilisers where possible.

✅ Join local Farm Watch, Rural Watch or community messaging schemes if available in your area.

✅ Remain alert for unusual activity, particularly individuals claiming to be looking for lost dogs, offering services, or making general enquiries about the farm.
