The team have continued to keep an eye on the ward's open spaces in recent months as the dry conditions increase the likelihood of wildfires.
The Eastbrookend Country Park, Fels Field and Central Park have all been monitored since May, with dedicated patrols taking place. During that time, 11 glasses bottles discarded by visitors have been collected.
By magnifying the sun's rays, glass can ignite dry foliage. In fact, just a few weeks ago, a Guernsey fire requiring 400 tonnes of water to extinguish was believed to have been started by discarded bottles (see link below).
It doesn't take long for a small patch of fire to become a critical incident and endanger life, so helps us keep this small part of the world fire-free.
