Burbage Police. Large Groups Of Youths, Balaclavas, E-Scooters And Arrests.

We hope you are well. Here is an update regarding crime and Police activity in Burbage since our last update on the 31st of July. 

Reported Crime and Appeals

Report of a suspicious male on Winchester Drive on Saturday the 1st of August at 18:00, this was followed by a report of an attempt burglary at 21:20 on Winchester Drive. No entry gained and suspect fled the area. If you have any information and have not already spoken to Police, please get in touch. Darren.stretton@leics.police.uk

Report on the 3rd of August from Woodland Avenue at 05:00 where suspects have made efforts to enter a property, then fled. If you have any CCTV and have not already spoken to officers, please get in touch. 26000460094

Reports from Church Street and Windsor Street of a youth in a balaclava on a black bicycle at around 16:00 behaving in a suspicious manner. We are completing work to identify this person and have some follow up work planned in this week to address this behaviour. 

Patrols, Police Activity and local engagement

Following last months report of a stolen motorbike from Lucas Road, the bike has been recovered and one person arrested. We continue to look for CCTV in the area for between 14:30 on the 9th of July and 14:30 on the 10th, or any other suspicious activity (persons in balaclavas in the area) in the days before the theft. 26000406038. 

Two persons arrested following a report of a vehicle related collision on Watling Street, one of these were arrested for drink drive at 01:30 on the morning of the 2nd of August. 

Ongoing patrols around Brookside Park and Tilton Road Park as we continue to receive reports of E-Scooter use in local parks. These children are often very young, and we appear to have an increase during the school holidays. We continue to remind parents of the potential danger of these scooters and request parents do not let their children use these. They are illegal. 

We are working with the local schools to identify and address a few recent reports relating to large groups of youths around the Brittania Road park area where front doors have been kicked, plant pots kicked, and other unreasonable behaviour has been affecting local residents. This type of “silly” behaviour impacts on the feeling of safety in the area and crosses the line of “kids being kids”. We will be completing home visits over the coming days.  

Crime prevention and issues to be aware of

A resident has been in touch as they are being bombarded with very pushy and aggressive salespersons regarding “loft work”. Please speak to your phone provider regarding blocking these types of calls and please do not engage with these people. We continue to remind people to call 999 immediately if you see a crime in progress. We often receive calls of “garden hoppers, persons in balaclavas etc”, after the fact. If we are able to attend at the time, this gives us the best opportunity of identifying those involved. Just a reminder if you are into your gardening, the BGC gardening annual show is at Hastings High school on Saturday the 15th of August, we will be there with our crime prevention stall from around 15:30 – 18:00 if you want to pop in. We have items sold at cost such as fence spikes, shed alarms, alarmed padlocks and much more.
