Additional Powers Introduced to Address Ongoing Anti-Social Behaviour in Somerleyton area |
||
|
Over recent months we have received significant feedback from residents and local businesses regarding anti-social behaviour around Somerleyton and Coldharbour Lane.
Residents have told us: "I barely slept for four nights in a row." "The bass vibrates my flat and makes it impossible to sleep." "Sometimes it can be quite threatening at night." Businesses have also told us they are concerned about persistent drug use, street drinking, disorder and large unmanaged gatherings within the area.
Following reports from residents, feedback received through Met Engage, intelligence regarding crime and vulnerability in the area, and recent incidents which have heightened community concern, we will be introducing a 48-hour dispersal order covering the Somerleyton area, between 21:00 on the 6th August 2026 and 21:00 on the 8th August 2026
What does this mean? The dispersal power allows police officers to direct individuals to leave the area where they are involved in, or likely to become involved in: Officers will also be able to require the surrender of items contributing to anti-social behaviour, including large speakers and sound equipment being used during unauthorised gatherings.
What are we targeting? We want to be clear that this is not aimed at ordinary residents, families or people lawfully enjoying public spaces. The focus is on: Everyone has the right to enjoy their home without being kept awake until 2am, 3am or even 5am by excessive noise and disorder. We recognise the significant impact these issues are having on local residents' sleep, wellbeing and sense of safety, and we will continue working alongside Lambeth Council and community partners to identify longer-term solutions.
If you witness ASB or criminality during this period, please continue to report it via 101, online or 999 in an emergency and quote CAD 5595/06Aug26 Thank you to everyone who has continued to raise concerns and engage with us.
