Safety Advice: Swimming in Shadwell Basin |
||
|
Dear All, As temperatures rise, we know it can be tempting to enter the water at Shadwell Basin to cool down. However, swimming in the basin can be extremely dangerous and is strongly discouraged. The water may look safe, but hidden dangers can put lives at risk. Cold water shock can occur even on warm days, making it difficult to breathe or swim. There may also be submerged objects, unexpected deep areas, and poor water quality that could lead to serious injury or drowning. We encourage everyone to use supervised swimming pools, lidos or other designated swimming facilities instead. If you witness someone struggling in the water, call 999 immediately. Do not attempt to rescue them by entering the water. If possible, throw a flotation aid or any object that will float while waiting for emergency services to arrive. Your support in sharing this important safety message is greatly appreciated. Stay safe and enjoy the summer responsibly. Kind regards, Your Local Neighbourhood Team | ||
