Catapult and E-scooter seized in South Ashford

In the most recent survey conducted on My Community Voice, you voted E-scooters as one of the main issues in your area. I am pleased to say that today whilst on patrol local beat officers spotted an e-scooter being ridden on the road in South Ashford. The scooter was swiftly stopped and seized and the owner will not be able to get it back. 

E-scooters and unregistered e-motorbikes are classed as motor vehicles under the Road Traffic Act 1988. This means the rules that apply to motor vehicles, also apply to e-scooters including the need to have a licence and insurance.

There are two ways of using an e-scooter:

It's not currently possible to get insurance for privately owned e-scooters. This means it’s illegal to use them on the road or in public spaces, such as parks, street pavements, and shopping centres.

If you use a privately-owned e-scooter in public, you risk the vehicle being seized under S.165 Road Traffic Act 1988 for having no insurance. 

On the same day, Police received a report of youths firing a catapult at trees. The group was quickly identfied and stopped and their bags searched. A catapult was found and they have been dealt with appropriately.
