Here’s the latest on mobile phone theft in your area. Subject: Mobile Phone Theft Update and Crime Prevention Advice
Thank you for taking part in the recent Local Priority Survey. Your ongoing feedback about issues affecting your community is invaluable in helping us target resources effectively and address local concerns.
Although mobile phone theft was not identified as a concern in your most recent feedback, it has been raised by other members of the community, and we wanted to provide you with an update.
Over the past week, there have been two reported mobile phone thefts in the area. One incident occurred on Amhurst Road and the other on Wilton Way. In both cases, the victim's phone was snatched directly from their hand by a suspect riding an e-bike. The offences took place on busy main roads with high levels of pedestrian activity. Enquiries into these incidents are ongoing.
While investigations continue, we would like to remind residents to take some simple precautions to help reduce the risk of becoming a victim of phone theft:
Avoid using your phone openly near busy roads or public thoroughfares where possible.
Keep your phone securely in a pocket or bag when not in use.
Remain aware of your surroundings, particularly when using your device.
Avoid standing close to the kerb or pavement edge while using your phone.
Enable tracking and security features on your device.
Use a strong PIN, password, fingerprint, or facial recognition lock.
Turn off message previews on your lock screen to prevent thieves accessing security codes.
Keep a record of your phone's IMEI number (dial *#06# to obtain it).
Plan routes using well-lit and busy streets, particularly when travelling alone.
Never leave phones, tablets, cameras, or other valuables unattended in public places.
Mobile phone thieves often target individuals who appear distracted or unaware of their surroundings. We continue to use intelligence-led policing tactics to identify offenders and prevent further incidents.
Officers will continue to patrol the area and provide reassurance to the community. Please remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour.  We’ve put hundreds more officers on the frontlines of community crime-fighting teams, upping visible patrols in the right ‘hot spots’ so we can deter and catch criminals. These officers are working hard to bear down on mobile phone crime in London, arresting phone thieves on the street, shutting down vendors trading stolen devices and dismantling international criminal gangs. We have now almost halved phone theft in Westminster, where it was most concentrated, following an intensive crackdown which has seen hundreds of arrests and thousands of phones recovered. After campaigning by the Met, Apple has also made a global change to its security system that better ensures stolen phones cannot be reused or resold – disrupting a highly organised international business model worth millions. But we know there is more to do. That’s why we’re stepping up our use of technology, increasing our operations and working with phone companies to make it less appealing for criminals to commit these crimes in the first place.
