Glossop SNT - National Community Speed Watch 'All Out Day' - 15th July 2026

The totals for the day, recorded in Derbyshire by our Community Speed Watch Volunteer teams contributions, were as follows:

220 volunteers gave up their free time to complete events throughout our county - amounting to 57 hrs11 mins in total being donated by the volunteers on the day.

18,739 vehicles were seen being driven by teams during each of the events that day.

693 were recorded speeding. 

24 of those received tier 2 letters 

* 4 of those received tier 3 letter (see below).

Anyone who was caught speeding that day will be sent a letter from the CSW team informing them of their offence. 

Depending on the number of times the same vehicle has been recorded speeding reflects which letter the registered keeper will receive.  

* If the same vehicle has been recorded speeding on the third occasion the registered keeper will receive a visit from a police officer to offer strong words of advice on the dangers of speeding.

During Each Event: .

A handheld radar speed device is required for recording speeds of vehicles. The speed guns do not need to be calibrated. Volunteers willl wear high visibility jackets and 2 CSW road signs  will be deployed during each event.

Locations are identified by our local communities, particulalrly with speeding as an issue, by completing our Derbyshire Community Voice Surveys online and/or in person with local officers in attendance at local events.

The benefits of Commuity Speed Watch:

• Deters incidence of speeding at the   location and immediate area at the time of sessions taking place

• Enables advisory/warning letters to be sent to those recorded as speeding

• Provides direct evidence of a speeding problem that can be utilised by Police enforcement and other agencies

• Provides an opportunity for local communities to take a direct and positive stand against speeding

• Due to it being volunteer lead the scheme provides the clearest sign that the community is no longer willing to tolerate speeding

• Directly contributes towards speeding becoming socially unacceptable

There is an expectation for our volunteers to do at least five roadside sessions per year to make the scheme viable.

Full training is given to volunteers. This training will be provided by the force Speed Watch co-ordinator and a Safer Neighbourhood officer - you can find out more about volunteering at www.derbyshire.police.uk > community speed watch.
