🚨 Pedlars and Doorstep Sellers Reminder 🚨

It's that time of year again when we start seeing an increase in doorstep sellers across the district.

Please remember that under the Pedlars Act 1871, anyone acting as a pedlar must be in possession of a valid Pedlar's Certificate and must produce it on demand to:

If a doorstep seller cannot produce a valid certificate when required, they may be committing an offence under the Pedlars Act 1871.

It is also worth remembering that members of the public are under no obligation to open their door or engage with doorstep sellers. Residents who feel uncomfortable should be encouraged to keep their door closed and contact police if they have concerns about the individual's behaviour.

From previous encounters, many of these individuals also end up committing Public Order Act offences, so consider all available offences where appropriate.
