Neighbourhood operation sees patrols stepped up in Sutton Park

A joint operation between teams in Sutton Coldfield has seen patrols stepped up as officers listen to residents and act on their priorities.

Officers are aware of recent reports of problems with bikes in the park – with groups said to be riding them in an anti-social manner and reports of some being used in crime. 

We know these reports are worrying but we can assure you that several lines of enquiry are currently being followed with investigators working on targeting those behind this type of offence. 

Our teams have also been working together to patrol the park and speak with those safely enjoying everything it has to offer. 

Yesterday (28 July) the Neighbourhood Crime Team, supported by neighbourhood teams from Sutton and Erdington, headed out for a joint operation in the park covering the key busy areas and following intelligence about reports involving problem bikes. 

Thankfully, no offences were recorded, and our teams were able to stop and chat with many people using the park, including young people who were riding bikes.

We know from these conversations that people appreciate a visible, strong, and reassuring presence in the park, and this will continue. 

Sutton Trinity neighbourhood officers are also continuing to carry out Walk and Talk events in the park, having held their first earlier this month. 

This is a great chance to meet residents, listen to their concerns and spend time in the park – an important part of the community.  

These sessions support the patrols we already carry out daily around Sutton to deal with crime and anti-social behaviour. 

Det Sgt Emily Heath, from the Sutton Coldfield Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “We’re listening to residents and our message is clear: we want everybody to be able to enjoy the park safely, but we won’t tolerate crime there, and those committing offences can expect to be dealt with accordingly. 

“More operations are being planned, and dedicated local officers are regularly carrying out patrols around the area. 

“If you or someone you know is a victim of this type of crime, it’s important that it’s reported to us. We will make enquiries and can adapt our plans to make sure we keep cracking down on this.”
