Weekly update from the South Yardley Neighbourhood policing team.

Dear Members, 

Here’s a quick round up from the South Yardley neighbourhood policing team. 
 
What’s been happening:

We know the Oaklands Traveller encampment had been moved on, which we seen this go onto Horseshoe Lane. I can confirm this has been moved on and with the support from Birmingham City Council, this would not have been possible without them. We know this caused community concerns to the local areas and the park sites. It has been raised for the parks gates to be revisited and be updated. Any further information on this will be shared once we have this. This had affected many attending to the park and events scheduled. 
 

Officers and PCSOs have also been attending to schools providing inputs on various topics to assist with preventing crime and breaking barriers down between the police and children of all ages. They have also attended to school fairs allowing children to engage with the Police vehicles and getting crime prevention advice. 
 

35 tickets have been issued this week for parking offences within the area. Those that have been issued with receive a fine in the post. We have also seized 7 vehicles for no tax in the area. We know this is a concern in the community across the board. We will do all we can to seize them, however Police only have powers to seize after 2 months and 2 days. If those, are out of tax within this time frame this will be for DVLA to assist. We have requested for DVLA to attend parts of the patch and inform of us of their findings. This has been welcomed and the community have seen clamps being put on too. 
 

We are aware some within the community are operating businesses from home addresses where they have no tax vehicles and place this on the road. We will seek other avenues and support from partner agencies to reduce this. 
 

To assist to the community being able to get some advice, we are getting out the van and conducting drop-in surgeries where there is no common rooms/meeting rooms to host this for residents. Recently, we conducted our first one with Equipoint residents. This offered crime prevention advice, leaflets and freebies to assist with any crime they are facing. We are looking at continuing this, our next one will be at the Yew Tree flats; Danesmoor, Gosmoor and Frogmoor in the coming month, the council will be joining us on this.
 

We conducted a Community Afternoon in Small Heath Park on Friday 24th July from 1600-1900. This was a good turn out from all involved in the day and the community. We will be looking forward to conducting more of these as time goes on. Our next one will be much larger and will be in Oaklands Recreational Grounds on Wednesday 26th August from 10am – 3pm. We have WMP Horses, Traffic, South Yardley NHT offering crime prevention and Bike tracking. We will have a mix of independent businesses involved offering a range of activities and goodies. This consists of Face Painting, Jumping castles, rides, games, food and various products. We have also asked for Birmingham City Council Housing to attend to get onsite advice and Citizen Housing. We will also be joined by our emergency partners West Midlands Fire service and West Midlands Ambulance Service. 

We will continue to keep you informed on all taking place in the local community.

Wednesday 26th August at 1000-1500 hours – Oaklands Recreational Grounds – Community Day – Hosted by Police 

Saturday 29th August at 12:30 - Empowered Steps walk - Small Heath Park
