I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Violent Crime, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A man has been jailed for three years after he made threats while armed with a large knife in Tadley.
Liam Farmer, 29, of Stanfield, Tadley, threatened people inside an address on Priors Road on Tuesday 9 June.
He then used the weapon to smash a front door, doorbell and glass panel at an address on Almswood Road.
We attended the scene, arrested him nearby and seized the knife. After the arrest, officers were threatened and racially abused.
Farmer was charged and pleaded guilty to a number of offences at Winchester Crown Court:
• Making threats to kill
• Possess knife blade / sharp pointed article in a public place
• Criminal damage to property
• Use violence to secure entry to premises
• Racially / religiously aggravated fear / provocation of violence by words / writing / behaviour
He was jailed for a total of three years and handed a restraining order during a sentencing hearing at Winchester Crown Court on Friday 24 July.
Detective Constable Michael Cole, from Basingstoke CID, said: “This was a particularly shocking and terrifying incident for the victims involved.
“Liam Farmer acted in a threatening way while armed with a large knife, and his behaviour that evening was completely unacceptable.
“I would like to praise the victims involved for their bravery that evening and for phoning 999 immediately. This allowed police to attend the scene, arrest Farmer and seize the knife.
“Anyone who picks up a knife is putting others and themselves in danger and thankfully on this occasion no one was injured.
“Our officers will continue to work hard and do everything in their power to ensure those who carry knives are arrested, charged and put before the courts.”
