I wanted to provide you an update regarding Personal theft (e.g. pick pocketing, no violence used), which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. On 3rd May 2026, officers from Dalston Safer Neighbourhood Team were conducting foot patrols in Ridley Road Market when they were approached by a local resident. The resident provided private CCTV footage showing a parcel being stolen from an address on Colvestone Crescent just a few hours earlier.
Officers carried out enquiries with the victim, establishing that the stolen parcel had a value of £445. After reviewing the CCTV footage, officers were able to identify the suspect using their local knowledge.
Dalston SNT compiled a file of evidence, and on 5th June 2026 officers arrested the suspect. At the time of the arrest, the individual was also found to be in breach of a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO). The suspect was subsequently charged with Theft of Mail and breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.
The offender pleaded guilty to both offences at court and was sentenced to 8 weeks’ imprisonment. The court also ordered the offender to pay £445 in compensation to the victim for the stolen parcel.
This outcome demonstrates Dalston SNT’s commitment to investigating offences, supporting victims, and taking positive action against those who commit crime within our community. We would like to thank the member of the public who came forward with CCTV footage, as their assistance played an important role in achieving this result.
