Police Encounter Panel statement

Dear Resident,

Please see below statement from the Police Encounter Panel (PEP).

"The NE BCU Police Encounter Panel met on Thursday 16th July at Uplands Patrol Base. 

The Police Encounter Panel (PEP) reviewed two Body Worn Video (BWV) incidents and praised officers for their professionalism, calm approach, and care for those involved.

In the first incident, officers were commended for providing effective first aid for a severe machete wound.  Whilst taking appropriate steps to protect the individual’s dignity in a challenging environment.

In the second incident, members praised the calm and controlled deployment of police dogs, clear communication between officers and supporting teams, and the professional way a vulnerable individual was assisted to safety. The discussion also provided an opportunity for members to learn more about police dogs, their specialist roles, and the use of technology in policing.

The Panel recognised and praised the effective teamwork, communication, and proportionate approach demonstrated by officers throughout both incidents.

The Police Encounter Panel is currently underrepresented by young people aged 18–30 and people from ethnic minority backgrounds. We are keen to hear from a diverse range of local voices and perspectives, including people with personal experience of interacting with the Metropolitan Police Service.
