Custodial sentence for prolific thief in Guisborough

Recipient of community order for Guisborough shop thefts is jailed after another court appearance.

Just two weeks after pleading guilty at court to a dozen shop thefts in Guisborough, a man who was fined and served with a community order at that time has now been jailed after committing a further 11 offences.

20-year-old Callum Briggs had been dealt with at Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 2 July however this week he was arrested on suspicion of a further 10 counts of theft from a shop - as well as an attempted theft.

He was interviewed, and subsequently charged and remanded to attend the same court on Friday 17 July where he was dealt with for breach of his community order and for the thefts, receiving a 51-week sentence.

Redcar and East Cleveland Neighbourhoods Inspector Neil Deluce said: “We will continue to support local shops and businesses – as well as the wider public - by dealing with anyone who persistently commits retail crime. Equally, anyone subject to any kind of order will be monitored and, as Briggs has discovered, there are serious consequences to breaching such an order.”
