Open Letter to Motorcyclists
Dear Riders, H Café is a well-established and popular meeting place for motorcyclists, providing an opportunity for enthusiasts to meet, socialise and enjoy the excellent riding routes available throughout South Oxfordshire and the surrounding area. We recognise the positive nature of these gatherings and do not wish to discourage people from enjoying themselves responsibly. However, Thames Valley Police continue to receive numerous reports from residents living in the surrounding villages regarding the impact of motorcycle activity, particularly on Monday evenings. Many residents have reported that excessive speed, aggressive riding behaviour and the noise generated by some motorcycles are affecting their quality of life and preventing them from peacefully enjoying their homes and gardens. We are therefore asking all riders visiting H Café or any other bike meet locations to be mindful of the communities through which they travel. Please consider:
Whilst the vast majority of motorcyclists ride responsibly, a small number of individuals can have a significant impact on local communities and bring a legitimate business into disrepute. Where offences or anti-social riding are identified, Thames Valley Police will continue to carry out enforcement activity. This may include the use of speed enforcement equipment, targeted patrols and drone deployments, which have previously been used successfully to identify and prosecute riders involved in anti-social or dangerous riding. Our aim is not to prevent people from meeting at these locations or enjoying motorcycling. Rather, we are asking everyone to work together to ensure that riders and local residents can coexist respectfully. By riding considerately and being conscious of the impact that speed and noise can have on others, motorcyclists can help preserve the positive reputation of the biking community and reduce the distress being experienced by local residents. We appreciate your cooperation and thank the many riders who already travel through our communities in a safe and respectful manner.
Yours faithfully, Didcot and Wallingford Neighbourhood Policing Team | ||
