Quarterly Period: April – June 2026

Keeping Our Neighbourhoods Safe

Over recent months, officers from the Safer Neighbourhood and Local Policing teams have been carrying out proactive activity across the Chaddesden, Oakwood, Derwent and Spondon area. This work has focused on reducing serious violence, tackling drug‑related harm, safeguarding vulnerable people and improving community safety.

Proactive Policing Activity

Over the last quarter the team have targeted patrols in areas where our communities raise concerns and though intelligence development. As part of this work, officers completed a number of patrols and enforcement activities, resulting in:

41 stop searches under the Misuse of Drugs Act

15 persons found in possession of drugs diverted to out of court rehabilitate options to prevent further offending and provide support

Op Sidecar has been established due to the increase in theft of motorbikes in the area. As part of this operation designated patrols have been put together to target the relevant areas and times.

A male has been arrested for several burglaries at a commercial premises, which resulted in high value stolen property being recovered. The investigation is ongoing.

A large cannabis grow located and seized in Spondon. 400+ plants located. Investigation ongoing

Hotspot patrols have been conducted regularly and resulted in multiple individuals have been arrested for drug supply offences taking large quantities of drugs off our streets

Officers took part in the National 'Day of Action' to target the use of E-Scooters. This led to numerous E-Scooters being seized across the force.

This type of proactive policing is essential to preventing crime and ensuring concerns raised by our communities are acted upon.

Stop and Search

During the last quarter, 41 stop searches were carried out by local Safer Neighbourhood officers for drugs alone. These searches are conducted lawfully and proportionately and play an important role in preventing the carrying and use of weapons, as well as tackling drug‑related crime. The results from our proactive activity just goes to show how important stop search and proactive policing is, and what difference this makes to our communities.

Tackling Local Concerns

We currently have a Problem Management Plan in place to tackle overnight theft offences; this includes both theft of motorcycles and commercial premises burglaries. During the last quarter we have had good results from this as detailed in our proactive policing. We are continuing to focus on this over the next quarter under Operation Sidecar which will deliver prevention and offender targeted activity.

Working With Our Communities

Alongside enforcement, we continue to invest heavily in prevention and engagement. Recent activity includes:

Directed enforcement to address ongoing anti‑social behaviour in the area

Regular community catch‑ups, giving residents the chance to speak directly with officers

Property marking events aimed at preventing theft

Mini Police sessions at Beaufort Community School

Inputs delivered in local schools to educate young people

Ongoing multi‑agency work through local partnership groups, including the Chaddesden Park Working Group
