LPU Inspector Dan Quick - Quarterly Update |

LPU Inspector Quarterly Update Quarterly Period: April – June 2026
Keeping Our Neighbourhoods Safe Over this quarter, neighbourhood policing teams covering the city centre have continued to focus on reducing crime, tackling antisocial behaviour and improving the quality of life for those who live, work and visit the area. A proactive approach, combined with strong partnership working, has helped us make meaningful progress against issues raised by the community.
Proactive Policing Activity The City Centre Team has taken a multi‑pronged approach to tackling crime and antisocial behaviour. Officers have been highly visible, adaptable and consistently proactive, using a mix of patrol strategies to ensure a presence in key locations at the right times of day. A firm stance has been taken against behaviours that negatively impact the city centre, including drug misuse, street‑based antisocial behaviour and persistent offending. The team has also worked closely with partner agencies to take action against individuals who fail to respect the community.
Stop and Search Stop and search powers have been used robustly, lawfully and proportionately where officers had grounds to do so. During the last quarter officers have conducted 255 stop searches, resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of drugs and 8 weapons being taken off the streets. This activity has had a clear impact on deterring drug misuse in public spaces, particularly among those who believe it is acceptable to loiter in the city centre while under the influence of controlled substances.
Tackling Local Concerns Our proactive approach has delivered clear results over the last quarter. Some of the results are highlighted below.
To improve visibility and community reassurance, Operation Green Acre has been running for several months, and will continue to do so, with officers stationed at St Peter’s Cross every day, officers provided 504 hours of patrol at this location. Feedback from the public has been positive, with surveys reporting an increased feeling of safety.
Working With Our Communities PCSOs and officers regularly attend community forums and follow up on reports of antisocial behaviour to resolve issues wherever possible. Where vulnerability is identified, officers will enter addresses, safeguard victims and hold offenders to account. Partnership working remains central to this approach, ensuring concerns are addressed collectively and effectively.

By listening, acting early and remaining visible, we will continue to make the city centre a safer and more welcoming place for everyone.
