I wanted to provide you an update regarding robbery, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. We've been busy over the last few days, including continuing our work to tackle local concerns around robberies and anti-social behaviour in the area.
On Thursday, we stopped a motorcyclist riding in an anti-social manner. Checks revealed that he was disqualified from driving and committing a number of other road traffic offences. He was arrested and his motorcycle was seized. He has since appeared before magistrates, who extended his disqualification by a further six months and imposed fines totalling £600.
On Friday morning, we executed a search warrant at a bar and restaurant that has been linked to anti-social behaviour and complaints from local residents. While we did not locate the drugs we were seeking, officers identified evidence of poor food hygiene practices. We will be working with Lambeth Council and partner agencies to ensure these concerns are appropriately addressed.
Later on Friday, officers spotted a suspicious individual near an alleyway. Following a stop and engagement, grounds were established to conduct a search. The male attempted to make off but was quickly detained by officers. A knife was subsequently recovered from his possession, and he was arrested for possession of a bladed article in a public place and obstruction of a drug search.
Based on police intelligence and information available to officers, the male is believed to be linked to a number of knife-point robberies in Herne Hill and the larger surrounding area that have been causing concern within the local community. He has since been charged with a number of offences and is due to appear before court.
We're out on patrol again today and remain committed to tackling robbery, violent crime and anti-social behaviour in the area. If you see us while we're out and about, please come and say hello.
We will continue to tackle robbery in your local area. While we are investigating and arresting those responsible, please consider following the below advice to keep yourself and your property safe: Do not leave your phone, tablet or other digital goods unattended, out of sight or on a table. Be aware of your surroundings and only use your phone when it is safe to do so. Put your phone away when you have finished using it. Secure your phone by choosing a strong pin or password Keep a note of your IMEU number (to access, type *#06# on your phone keypad) Plan your route, especially if you are going somewhere you have not been before. Keep to busy, well-lit streets and walkways. Move with purpose and appear confident.
