Ward Priority Update- Road traffic Matters

Good afternoon Resident,

We’ve recently received a number of reports about anti-social use of off-road motorcycles and other motor vehicles on public footpaths and roads over recent weeks.

A very recent change to how we deal with Anti-social vehicle use has been introduced by the Crime and Policing Act 2026 which has come into effect this month.

Previously, Section 59 of the Police Reform Act required officers to issue warning notices on the first instance of vehicles being used Anti-socially, and gave a power to seize vehicles on the second instance of a vehicle being used in ASB.

The legislation has now been amended to make s.59 powers an immediate enforcement power, and removes the need for police to give a warning before seizure. This allows officers to seize a vehicle immediately when the statutory grounds are met.

Essentially, if you are identified as using a vehicle Anti-Socially, police can and will seize your vehicle immediately.

Your information is vital in tackling this issue. Please continue to report incidents:

📞 Call 101 or report online via the Kent Police website for non-emergencies

🚨 Dial 999 if there is immediate danger or risk of harm

📹 If you have CCTV, dashcam, or mobile footage, this can be incredibly helpful—please report it and reference the incident

When reporting, try to include:

Time and location

Description of riders/vehicles

Direction of travel

Any identifying features (clothing, bike colour, etc.)
