||
|
Hi All,
This update outlines the progress made on the community priorities set for your area by the Local Policing Inspector Craig in collaboration with the Safer Neighbourhood Supervisors, Sgt Adams and PCSO Supervisor Wallington-Waite and Partners. Community priorities are reviewed and set on a quarterly basis, guiding the focus of the Safer Neighbourhood Team’s activity, in this update, you’ll find: • A summary of the previous priorities • The actions taken and outcomes achieved • The new priorities for the upcoming quarter
New priorities are determined by analysing local crime trends and incorporating feedback from you, the community, through engagement events, surveys and direct contact. The previous priorities for the Swadlincote areas ( Midway/Newhall and ‘The Seales’ areas will be on a separate post) were: • Shop Thefts • illegal and anti-social vehicle use (Including E bikes and E Scooters) • Drug use/Distribution
Action Taken and Outcomes: For Shop Theft: We have conducted plain clothes and uniformed patrols to prevent and detect offending. We continue working with local businesses to prevent and detect crime through crime prevention measures and support services, including guidance on reporting procedures, security improvements and staff safety and continue to investigate reported offences and take appropriate action to bring offenders to justice using all available powers. We share updates with the public and local businesses through online platforms, including Derbyshire Alert and social media, as well as direct engagement at community meetings and events. During this last period, 15 persons have been identified and have been dealt with via restorative justice or out of court disposals, 19 persons have been summoned to court and 1 prolific offender who was arrested after being identified for 18 theft offences was issued at court a community order and a drugs rehab requirement. Following this he continued to steal and was arrested again, and given at court a 6 week sentence suspended for 12 months, further offending resulted in the male being sentenced to prison for 14 weeks.
For illegal and anti-social vehicle use (Including e bikes and e scooters) we have seized several e scooters, we also continue to engage with youths in and out of school around the law behind e scooter use. We have also conducted road safety talks with schools including to our pupils involved in the Mini Police programme. A male has been charged with drink driving offences on Common Road, Church Gresley. A male was remanded to court and sentenced to 18 weeks imprisonment for disqualified driving offences. Another driver has been charged with fail to provide a sample in custody after providing a positive drug swipe at the roadside. Drug use/Distribution updates- we have conducted plain and uniformed patrols utilising stop search powers where appropriate, we have gathered and progressed intelligence which has led to a female being found with cannabis resulting in work taking place via Youth offending team, a drugs warrant being executed at Holmes Court, Swadlincote and a male has been charged to court for possession of heroin.
New priorities: Following this review, the SNT has identified that the priorities for the upcoming quarter will remain the same: 1. Shop thefts. 2. Drug use/distribution. 3. Illegal and anti-social vehicle use, including e bikes/e scooters
For shop thefts we will: Conduct plain clothes patrols to prevent and detect offending. Continue working with local businesses to prevent and detect crime through crime prevention measures and support services, including guidance on reporting procedures, security improvements and staff safety. Continue to investigate reported offences and take appropriate action to bring offenders to justice using all available powers. Share updates with the public and local businesses through online platforms, including Derbyshire Alert and social media, as well as direct engagement at community meetings and events.
For drug use/distribution we will: Conduct proactive patrols within the community, making appropriate use of powers such as stop and search to prevent and detect drug offences. Work with support charities where necessary to address drug use. Engage with the community to gather information and target activity in the right areas. Take positive action when offences are detected.
For illegal and anti-social vehicle use (Including e bikes and e scooters) we will: Conduct regular high visibility and plain clothes patrols in known hotspot areas. Gather feedback and share updates with the community. Promote road safety awareness through school visits and youth engagement sessions. Take proactive enforcement action against offences such as speeding and anti-social driving. Work with Roads Policing Units for joint operations where necessary. Collaborate with local councils to identify infrastructure improvements (e.g. signage, traffic calming). Liaise with Highways and CCTV teams to support evidence gathering and deterrence. Share updates and crime prevention advice via Derbyshire Alert and social media. Publicise successful interventions to reassure the community and encourage reporting.
Kind Regards From Your Local Safer Neighbourhood Team. | ||
