The Runnymede Policing Your Community event which was postponed last month due to a red extreme weather alert has now been rescheduled. Join us at St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, on Tuesday, 22 September, from 6pm to hear from Chief Constable Tim De Meyer, Police and Crime Commissioner Lisa Townsend, and your local Borough Commander. We’ll tell you how Surrey Police is policing your local community, and there will be an opportunity to raise any concerns or questions you may have.
A man has been sentenced after seriously assaulting another pub-goer during an altercation at a pub in Chertsey last summer. On Friday, 1 August 2025, Delaney Reed, 22 (DOB: 06/05/2004) from Chertsey, was at a local pub near London Street when he became involved in an argument with another pub-goer. Shortly before midnight, CCTV captured an altercation escalating, with Reed repeatedly punching and kicking a man before leaving the area. Moments later, he returned and continued the assault through a gate before following the man onto the road outside. Once outside, Reed continued the assault, causing serious injuries to the man's face and body. Following an investigation by Surrey Police, including the review of CCTV footage, Reed was arrested shortly afterwards and later charged with grievous bodily harm. Appearing at Guildford Crown Court on Wednesday, 8 July, Reed pled guilty and was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, suspended for 30 months. He was also ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, undertake up to 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days, and pay a fine of £204. Investigating officer DC Megan Jarvis said: "No one should have their night out end in violence. This assault left another man with serious injuries and serves as a reminder of how quickly situations can escalate. "Incidents like this can have devastating and lasting consequences. We would encourage everyone enjoying our local pubs and bars to look out for one another and, where it is safe to do so, seek help from venue staff if they see a situation escalating. We work closely with licensed premises and our partners to help keep our town centres safe, and we will always take robust action against those who choose violence. "If you see someone who needs help, or witness violence or behaviour that causes concern while you're out, please report it to venue staff or to us. In an emergency always call 999. By working together, we can help ensure everyone feels safe enjoying Surrey's nightlife." | ||
