Crime Prevention Advice – Keeping Burglars out of your Property |
||
|
Dear West Putney residents,
Burglars will use a variety of methods to avoid being noticed when trying to enter your home, they do not want to be seen or heard and attempt their best to make their way onto your property and take your belongings. We would you like to provide some helpful advice so that you can protect your property the best you can.
Making your property visible – Installing outside lights that activate at dusk to dawn, having a low fence that doesn’t allow burglars to hide and having CCTV/Doorbell cameras. Having less opportunities for the burglars to take their time makes it less appealing for them to attempt entry into your property.
Distraction burglary, and how to help prevent it – Use your door viewer/video doorbell to see who and how many people are at your door, check who you are speaking to by asking for ID if they claim to be from a company, and remember that you are in charge, you do not have to open your door to anyone or accept any leaflet/advertisement that is offered to you.
Before leaving your property for work, school or other activities, please make sure that your windows and doors are shut and locked. Such crimes are usually committed by opportunistic offenders that seek those entry points to be left open so that they can commit their crime.
