I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Road Safety, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. Baking 30 degree+ weather, 83 vehicle stops, an array of traffic offences dealt with… this is Operation Excess – designed to keep our roads safe. Last week, on the 8th and 9th July, our officers were out and about on a two-day operation to crack down on traffic offences – with the heat wave proving no barrier to action being taken to make sure vehicles on are legal and roadworthy.
Here are the results in numbers:
83 vehicles stopped
1 arrest for fake license
19 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) for offences such as no MOT, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, insecure load, defective tyres, passenger seatbelt and light offences
2 summons for dangerous load
1 summons for 2 defective tyres, defective brakes, no insurance
1 summons for defective tyre, no mirrors, cord exposed, overweight
1 roadside deposit for a defective tyre
7 Graduated Fixed Penalty Notice (GFPN) for overweight offences
2 GFPN for no tachograph offencesX2 Vehicles seized
2 Tax offences
26 Vehicles prohibited for dangerous conditions
5 PG170s issued
