Local Priorities Vehicle crime (theft from or theft of) Message

I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Vehicle crime (theft from or theft of), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey.

In response to the recent theft of motor vehicles and hanoi burglaries in the Willows, Wybers and Great Coates area, targeted activity has been conducted in the past few days. We wish to share this with you to let residents know we are taking an active approach against this offending, and to inform those whom may not know this has been taking place.

We have seized a motorcycle believed to have been being used by the offenders to get around the areas of Grimsby, in addition to those thought to be responsible being recently arrested.

Further to this, an operation was conducted recently in the above areas that resulted in several stop searches and as a further deterrent to those believed to be involved in this offending.

Officers stayed on duty later than usual to conduct this operation, well into the early hours of the morning as opposed to other policing departments that are on duty over the night period as part of their normal duties and may be too waylaid with other demand.

Particular attention was paid to properties whose windows were open and accessible, informing them to close their windows or latch them in the evening.

We would like to encourage the public to adhere to the above advice. These offenders tend to target properties they view as 'easy access', particularly with downstairs windows that are open. Their current usual method relates to gaining easy access to a property to obtain the keys to the vehicles outside and then drive away.

Please ensure cars and properties are locked and secure, with windows at the very least being latched in the evening. As a further precaution, keys should be taken upstairs or locked away at night.

We encourage the public to report any further criminality, this can be done anonymously via the 101 system. Further, preventative work will be carried out in the coming days to tackle this offending and deal with those responsible. Thank You
